A short easy Japanese summer diary about eating strawberry kakigori with plenty of milk on a hot day.

Strawberry kakigori topped with plenty of milk

It was hot, so I had shaved ice.

It was strawberry flavor.

It had lots of milk and was very delicious.

Shaved ice is delicious on a hot day, isn’t it?

「氷」 is usually read 「こおり」 on its own, but in 「かき氷」 it becomes 「ごおり」 because of rendaku (sequential voicing).

Today's Words

  • あつa hot day

What You Can Practice

  • 「〜ですから」 gives a reason and means “because” or “since,” as in 「暑いですから」 (“because it is hot”).
  • 「〜に食べる」 uses 「に」 to show when something is eaten, as in 「暑い日に食べる」 (“eat on a hot day”).
