“Created by a qualified Japanese teacher.”
I’ve been a Premium member of Gaku since the very beginning, and it’s been one of the best resources I’ve found for improving my Japanese.

The graded reading levels are spot on, so there’s always content that’s challenging without being overwhelming. I especially love that every story includes high-quality audio, making it easy to practice both reading and listening together. Being able to toggle furigana on and off is another fantastic feature—it lets me test myself when I want a challenge while still having support when I need it.
For me, reading and listening in context is one of the most effective ways to learn a language, and Gaku does an outstanding job of combining both. Everything feels thoughtfully designed to help learners make steady, natural progress.
Another reason I trust Gaku is that it was created by a highly experienced and qualified Japanese teacher. That expertise really shows in the quality of the lessons, progression, and overall learning experience.
I wholeheartedly recommend Gaku to anyone learning Japanese. Whether you’re just starting out or already at an intermediate level, it’s a resource that’s absolutely worth signing up for.
I’m especially happy to hear that reading and listening together has been helping your Japanese. That’s exactly the kind of learning experience I hoped Gaku would provide.

“The Japanese learning website that has impressed me the most.”
I have seen many Japanese learning websites in my time studying Japanese, but Gaku is the one that has impressed me the most.
I have seen many Japanese learning websites in my time studying Japanese, but Gaku is the one that has impressed me the most.
The thing that immediately appealed to me about Gaku was the presentation and layout. The home page is very warm, welcoming, and inviting. It encourages learners to want to explore further and dive deeper into their studies.
The website is very easy to navigate, with a large amount of learning material neatly grouped according to learning levels. Gaku also offers useful learning resources for JLPT levels N5–N1.
It is a Japanese learning website that has been thoughtfully designed and beautifully presented. I highly recommend Gaku to Japanese learners of all levels.
I’m so happy to hear that you found Gaku warm, welcoming, and easy to explore. Creating a place where learners enjoy studying has always been one of my biggest goals.

“Designed for enjoyable and practical learning.”
I’ve been using Gaku regularly, and as someone who is still in the early stages of learning Japanese, the textbook section is by far the feature I use the most.
I’ve been using Gaku regularly, and as someone who is still in the early stages of learning Japanese, the textbook section is by far the feature I use the most. I love how each lesson builds on the previous one while reinforcing grammar and vocabulary I’ve already learned. The audio playback speed option has also been really useful for listening practice.
The site is easy to navigate, has a great design, and offers a healthy mix of learning resources. I especially like being able to save new words directly to my vocabulary list while reading stories, and I’m looking forward to using flashcards and premium features more (the onomatopoeia section is something I didn’t realize I needed!!). I’ve also really enjoyed following the blog. Even though I don’t understand everything yet, it feels grounded in everyday Japanese.
Overall, I think Gaku is a thoughtfully designed platform that has made learning Japanese more enjoyable and practical.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying the textbook lessons and even reading the blog. I hope Gaku continues to make your Japanese learning both enjoyable and practical.

“Gaku is part of my daily studies. I love it.”
I started using Gaku every day this week. As someone who has had lifelong difficulty remembering what he reads, Gaku is an extremely helpful tool.
I started using Gaku every day this week. As someone who has had lifelong difficulty remembering what he reads, Gaku is an extremely helpful tool.
The Text Book Lessons, with optional Furigana and multi-speed audio playback, have been extremely helpful in improving my reading comprehension ability. I can practice reading Japanese at my own pace, at a level I’m comfortable with.
I’m especially fond of the extra cultural touches that are found throughout the site. From the Onomatopoeia and Calligraphy sections, to the Proverbs & Idioms section: I’m learning far more about Japanese culture on this website, than I ever have from any language book. There’s even homemade Japanese Recipes!
Going forward, Gaku will be part of my daily studies. I love it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I’m truly happy to hear that Gaku has become part of your daily Japanese studies. Knowing that you’re enjoying exploring the site and discovering new ways to learn means so much to me.
